Accessibility

An inclusive and accessible website

Our website has been designed to be intuitive and easy to use to help you find the information you require.

We also focus on making the website to be inclusive and accessible to all users, regardless of disability or technology limitations.

This page highlights what we have done to make our website accessible, and explains how to use these features.

Help with navigation

Any option containing an underlined letter can be visited using the keyboard by pressing:
- ALT + [Letter Highlighted] followed by [RETURN]
For example, on the home page, the 'Accessibility' option has 'A' underlined. Therefore pressing 'Alt + A ' and then [RETURN] will go to the accessibility section.

We also utilise breadcrumb trails on all pages so that you always know where you are and can easily navigate back to the homepage or a previous page.

Clicking on the Survivors UK logo at the top left of a page will take you back to the homepage.

Every page has a Skip Navigation link at the top of the page to allow users of assistive technologies to jump straight to the main content of the page.

Links

Most links have Title attributes which describe the destination of the link in greater detail. Title attributes are not included if the link already fully describes where the link goes to.

Wherever possible links are written to make sense out of context, so that you do not have to read the surrounding text to understand where the link will take you.

On any page, identically-worded links will always link to the same page.

If a link opens a file or new window, a warning will be placed within the Title attribute.

Images

All graphics and images in our website have an alternative text (ALT) attribute that describes the contents or function of the image.

Visual design

A number of elements have been included in the design of the website to make it easier for everyone to use:

  • - Our website uses relative font sizes which can be resized in your browser.
  • - Where colours are used we have tried to make sure there is maximum contrast between foreground and background items.
  • - Active hyperlinks in the page content area are always underlined. No other text is underlined.
  • - If your browser or reading device does not support stylesheets, all content will still be readable.
