Here is something to shout about:
a campaign to start a discussion by not talking.
On average it takes 26 years for a man to speak out about sexual abuse or rape.
The 26hour challenge asks it’s champions to pledge to take a 26 hour silence to reflect the 26 year average silence our clients face before seeking support for rape, sexual assault and sexual abuse.
The 26hour Challenge is one half of our two current movements – #WeSeeYou and #WeHearYou. You will be helping campaign to shed light on the average time of 26 years that it takes men within our service to speak about their abuse.
By getting involved and showing that you hear the silent community all around us, we can raise more awareness of the barriers many individuals face when speaking out about sexual violence and begin to dismantle them.
26 hours of no talking – so get creative with your communication! If you register for the challenge we will get you a Survival Kit where you will find also a sticker. Throughout your silence, write on #WeHearYou, and take a selfie with it across your mouth. Post this on social media, tagging SurvivorsUK and #WeHearYou #26hourchallenge or upload it on the Hall of Hearoes, our page of dedicated champions for the cause.
26 hours is extremely hard to do on your own, so try and encourage your loved ones to support you and get involved too!
In exchange for fundraising for us, your challenge kit will be equipped with SurvivorsUK merchandise, including a set of #WeHearYou headphones to help you through the day.
The donation you make from the fundraising will be pumped straight back into SurvivorsUK in order to see more clients and more quickly, as well as create more tools to continue to raise awareness of male rape and sexual abuse.
You want to show your support for the 26hour challenge but don’t want to raise funds? You can make a donation and spread the word on social media – every little helps!
