BBC Crimewatch programme on Operation Hydrant
At 9pm on Monday 27 February BBC TV Crimewatch’s programme will identify why those who have been abused many years ago (historic abuse) are reluctant to come forward and report such abuse.
“This programme, entitled “From Call to Corroboration”, which features several survivors’ stories should be watched by all those who have experienced such abuse but need to be reassured that it can still be investigated and that reporting is not a waste of time” said Keith Best Chief Executive of SurvivorsUK, the only national charity offering emotional support and counselling to adult male survivors.
“We recognise the inhibitions and the trauma often involved in someone coming forward but urge survivors to seek help. We offer a confidential and anonymous service to those who have been abused through our webchat and can offer counselling as well. We do not expect or require that survivors should report their abuse to the police but will point out the options. The most important thing is that those who have been affected seek the professional help that we can provide.”
