Christopher Hunter to premiere Venus and Adonis at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017
Christopher Hunter is taking his mesmerising one-man dramatisation of Shakespeare’s Venus and Adonis to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year!
The performance is entertaining and provocative, thrilling and surprising, challenging and shocking and is already exciting a lot of interest.
Venus and Adonis is a poem written by a young Shakespeare telling the story of Venus’s seduction of Adonis. But it is so much more than that. As Chris worked on the poem, something dark and disturbing began to emerge. Instead of a romantic, lyrical and erotic tale of passionate love, at its heart is the story an innocent young boy who leaves home one morning, is sexually assaulted by an older woman, and never returns.
The production will also raise awareness of SurvivorsUK and our work with men and boys who are victims of sexual abuse. If the play is successful any profits will be donated to SurvivorsUK.
