Legacy

If you have been a regular giver to the charity or if you would like to continue to help us after your death you may wish to give us a gift in your Will. If you have not made a Will we strongly urge you to do so as otherwise what you leave (your “estate”) will be disposed of by Government rules which may not coincide with your wishes. Moreover, a Will is a way of ensuring that your loved ones are provided for after your death and you give help to those individuals/organisations you wish to benefit.

We very much hope that you will remember SurvivorsUK in your will. If you have not yet written a Will the following is the wording we suggest. If, however, you have already written a Will you do not need to write a new one in order to add a gift to SurvivorsUK – you can write what is known as a “codicil”. You can give either money or property.

Clause in a Will

This can be either a percentage of your estate or a specific sum of money.

“I give x% of the residue of my estate to SurvivorsUK Ltd (Registered Charity No. 1077484) of 11 Sovereign Close, London E1W 3HW (or subsequent address) for its charitable purposes and direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or of any other appropriate officer for the time being of SurvivorsUK Ltd shall be a good discharge to my Executors.”

OR

“I give £X (or the property specified) to SurvivorsUK Ltd (Registered Charity No. 1077484) of 11 Sovereign Close, London E1W 3HW (or subsequent address) for its charitable purposes and direct that the receipt of the Chief Executive or of any other appropriate officer for the time being of SurvivorsUK Ltd shall be a good discharge to my Executors.”

Codicil

For those who already have a Will and do not wish to re-write it but want to add a Codicil as authorisation for a gift.
If you are giving a percentage please ensure that the percentage is consistent with your original Will so that the combined total adds up to no more than 100% of your estate. If you are giving money please ensure that there is sufficient in your estate to pay this in addition to the bequests already in your Will.)

You should create and complete the following document:

I (full name) of (full address)

Declare this to be the 1st/2nd/3rd/other Codicil to my Will dated (date)

I give, free of inheritance tax, the sum of £

OR I give, free of inheritance tax, a % share of my estate

OR I give, free of inheritance tax, a specific gift of

In all other respects I confirm my said Will and any other Codicils.
